Welcome to The Turks and Caicos Islands
Welcome!
The Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI) are named after the indigenous Turk's Head
"fez" cactus, and the Lucayan term "caya hico" meaning string
of islands. There are eight islands and dozens of cays (pronounced keys) dotted
throughout the waters. Turks and Caicos Islands are a British Crown Colony and
is self-governed by one of two elected parties. TCI boasts a year-round perfect
climate with an abundance of sun, sand and sea. Once you have been a visitor
to the islands you will return again and again to this paradise where many choose
to make their home, or their home away from home for part of the year - usually
the winter months. Although Grand Turk is the capital of the country, the island
of Providenciales is the main economic center. The island's rapid emergence
as a world-class tourist destination has fueled enviable annual growth and provides
a high standard of living for inhabitants. There is an international airport
on Provo that welcomes 45+ flights per week from around the world and just a
90-minute flight south from Miami, Florida. There are no taxes, so the country
is an important offshore financial center and has had the highest growth rate
in the Caribbean at the turn of the century. English is the official language
and currency is US dollar. The people are warm and welcoming, the atmosphere
relaxed and tranquil on our sunny Caribbean islands.
Real Estate in The Turks and Caicos Islands
Being a major tourist destination, prime beachfront is expensive (upward of
a million dollars per acre). For those prospective buyers who find beachfront
too expensive, there are still substantial areas available at a very reasonable
price. The island is 22 miles long, so no matter where you live the beach is
just a few minutes away. There are two distinct markets, local and foreign.
Local residents represent a small market. The foreign buyer may buy as an investment
in the future and also to have a vacation home or condo. The vacation rental
market is very attractive and those that own property can do short term rentals
for sun seekers and have a very good return on investment. Buyers can feel comfortable
with the process of property transfer as there are government guidelines and
regulations in place. The real estate market is on a very steady upward rise
and is expected to stay strong. Being a part of a major growth spurt for the
islands is very exciting.
