Welcome to Luxembourg
Wellkomm!
Nestled between Belgium, Germany and France in the "heart of Europe",
slightly smaller than Rhode Island and with a population of just over 400,000,
the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg ranks as one of the world's smallest countries.
But such diminutive geographic and demographic facts belie its growing international
importance. Luxembourg is a thriving, wealthy country with one of the world's
highest per capita incomes. It has emerged as an important financial center
-- sixth in the world -- and serves as the capital for financial and monetary
policy for the European Community. With foreign residents representing over
30% of the population and a multilingual citizenry, Luxembourg offers a truly
cosmopolitan environment. The official spoken language is Luxembourgish, but
most of the population is fluent in both French and German, and many speak English.
Real Estate in Luxembourg
The high standard of living is reflected in the housing statistics, with a
home ownership rate of 65%. The majority of homes in Luxembourg are single-family
with a garden (small yard) and the average home price is $160,000. The real
estate industry is unregulated in Luxembourg, with no training or license required
to become an agent and no laws regulating the profession. "For Sale"
signs are rarely used and there is minimal inter-agency cooperation (co-broke
sales).
